Radiology is one of our most used diagnostic tools. We have a state of the art on-site digital x-ray system that delivers films within seconds of them being taken. The high quality films aid in the quick recognition of many disorders. Most radiographs can be taken on awake pets, but in some cases sedation or anesthesia is required. We have the option of sending our films to a board-certified radiologist for evaluation. We do perform x-rays for submission to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).

Ultrasound is an excellent diagnostic tool that uses ultrasonic sound waves to create images of body structures. These images provide detailed information about internal tissues and organs and can be very helpful in the diagnosis of certain diseases. We perform ultrasound in-house and have the ability to call an internal medicine or cardiology specialist in to GVH to perform advanced ultrasonography or can refer to a board certified radiologist in New Haven as needed.

Endoscopy is an anesthetic procedure that allows visual inspection of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. This is accomplished through the use of fiber-optic technology without invasive exploratory surgery. It is often used for obtaining biopsy samples to diagnose disease, as well as removal of foreign objects from a patient thus eliminating the need for surgery.

On-site Laboratory
Our full in-house laboratory quickly screens for a wide variety of diseases and conditions. Our most common tests include: complete blood count, chemistry profiles, electrolytes, coagulation times, urinalysis, blood gases, and antifreeze testing. We also offer Idexx SNAP tests which screen for: Heartworm disease, Lyme, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia canis, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) , feline leukemia, parvovirus, and pancreatitis.
